The Exodus -->> Jethro's advice

The children of Israel lived in Egypt 430 years they stated there as guest, & as the Pharaoh's personal herdsmen. but as they were blessed while being there the new kings that passed through became fearful of them because of the tremendous growth that the Lord blessed them with. So, in turn the Egyptians started to hold them down and punish them and ridicule them and enslave them in all the things the kingdom of Egypt needed. However, the more persecution they came under the more they grew, the more they prospered. The time had came for the children to receive the promised land the their father's fathers. The Lord used Moses to deliver the people out of Egypt and he plagued the Egyptians (the strongest nation in the world at the time) to show the power of God and that He was God the one and only. The Lord put them on the path out of Egypt and on the path to the promised land.

Exodus 12

The Lord laid out His regulations for the passover for the Israelites and the future people. The people were meant to take of it every year and not wo be shared or taken with foreigners. For a foreigner to take of the passover all his males in the household must be circumsized and then he may become as a native Israelite and take of the passover.

Exodus 12

The Lord called for the consecration of all the first born whether man or beast. The feast of unleavened bread was taken as the people exited Egypt. The Lord had them take of it and exit without any leaven, for they had no time to get leaven.

I see this as an opportunity to rid the Israelites of all the junk of the Egyptians that the Israelites had picked up over the last 430 years of living among them.

Galatians 5:9 - A little leaven leavens the whole lump.

1 Corinthians 5:6 - Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?

This is what the Israelites were living in the leaven of the Egyptians teachings and their social acceptances. The Lord was wanting to get the people, His people, to release this stuff and trust in Him and Him alone. The more worldly stuff they had in them and the more they brought with them the more it grew and the more it tainted the whole lot.  Just as the Leaven in bread will leaven the whole batch, so will worldly teaching and worldly thought.

Think on this!

Where is your thought?

Exodus 13

The law of the first born is given. All the first born is given to the Lord but the first born of a donkey you can redeem with a lamb. The first born of your sons you shall redeem, and when your sons ask why is this your shall tell them its because of the Hand of the Lord upon leaving Egypt was used on all the first born as the Pharaoh was hard hearted and didn't wanna let the Israelites leave. The hand of the Lord freed them. The Lord led them though the wilderness up out of Egypt instead of a straight direct path through the Palestinians territory. Moses took the bones of Joseph with him.

Exodus 13

The Lord led the people to the Red Sea with backs to it and the Egyptians on their heals. As they fret they asked why didn't you just leave us instead up leading us to our slaughter, but the Lord was teaching them by showing them who He is. He used Moses to part the Red Sea and let the people pass and crush the Egyptians as they attempted to follow. So the people seen the work of Moses on behalf of the Lord and they feared the Lord and Moses His prophet.

Exodus 14

Then as they were delivered the children of Israel and Moses sang songs to the Lord of rejoicing, and of praise. Miriam the Prophetess sang songs to the Lord of triumph and defeat of the enemies. The people traveled on and found no water and they began to complain and cry to Moses and the Lord. The Lord delivers Bread to the people and told them how to receive it daily, and not to take it wrongly. as they did they were blessed and he brought birds (Quails) in the evenings. I believe this was for the people to learn to rely on the Lord for all things. So that they could learn to place their faith and hope and trust in the Lord.

Exodus 15-16

The people complained and tempted the Lord and came against Moses in their need for water. Moses ask why they tempt the Lord. He ask the Lord what to do about these complaining people. The Lord led him to a rock at Horeb to cast his rod upon it with the elders present to see the work of the Lord and they seen and revealed in the work of the Lord. Now the Amalekites came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. Moses told Joshua to choose some men and go out and fight the Amalek. Moses stood on a hill with Aaron and Hur and as Moses rose his hands the Israelites were winning but as he dropped them they were being defeated, so Aaron and Hur sat Moses on a rock and one on either side of him and they helped him by holding his weary arms up till the Amalek were defeated.

Exodus 17

Now Moses's Father-in-law came to see Moses and he observed all Moses was doing for the people and how it was just simply too much for any one man to do. He suggested for the people to come in and help him out. Moses shared all that had happened and all the Lord had done to free them and Jethro gave of a burnt offering to the Lord. Jethro made a suggestion that no one man could do this alone and that Moses needed to divide up the problems with the people with rulers over thousands and rulers of hundreds and rulers of fifties and rulers of tens. Moses selected able bodied men to help out they took care of most of the simple stuff and only brought the big problems to Moses instead of all the little things.

Exodus 18

Now this must have been a very trying time for the people of Israel to be trying to learn to trust in the Lord and learn to have faith in Him in all things. The people had all their lives only took care of themselves by what was always there at their fingertips. They didn't realize how blessed they were and that it was due to the Lord's blessings that He placed upon their people. The just go used to being blessed that, that's just how things were. So, now leaving all that comfort they didn't wanna see the bondage they were living in. The Lord wanted their dependence and faith to be in Him and not on their worldly masters (Egyptians). Now the one I see as a man really taken to faith and filled with patience is Moses. How in the  world would anyone wanna put up with all this crying from these spoiled rotten people wanting to be spoon fed for everything. Man oh, man the Lord had His hand on him for sure. The support Moses got from some of the others such as Aaron and Hur was pretty amazing as well. I know this must be a place where Iron sharpens Iron. Moses had his brother and a few close others to help him stay lifted.

Lord I pray to you to day help me to have the patience and faith of Moses in times of trial and strife I may face. I beg your forgiveness for my past failures and for my future failures. I know I can't do any of this without you Lord, so please help me to know when to call upon you for strength. I know it will be daily and sometimes minute by minute. Father lift me up to where you want me to be. I love you Father, I give you all the honor glory and praise I have in me. I pray all in the loving kind generous pleasant beautiful humble precious name above all names, Christ Jesus, Amen!
