Pharaoh gave Jacob and his family the best of land in Goshen. Pharaoh even gave Jacob and his family control over his personal livestock and put the most competent herdsmen in charge. Joseph deals with the famine that was ravaging the land of Canaan and Egypt. Joseph vows to Jacob to take his body back to his father's burial place.
Genesis 47 -
Jacob blesses Joseph's sons, he gave His youngest the greater blessing but still blessed them both. Jacob spoke a blessings over all his sons according to their blessings. Jacob passed and was taken back to Canaan to the family burial cave with his wife Leah and his father and father's father. Pharaoh sent a procession of servants of Pharaoh with the elders of Pharaoh and all Joseph's family and his brothers families and their elders. It was a great gathering. They gathered there and mourned for seven days as thier custom.
Genesis 48-50 -
Now that Jacob was passed the brothers thought that Joseph might now get even and hold it against them since their father was gone. Joseph assured them that there was nothing to worry about. He assured them that they may have meant it for his bad but the Lord meant it for all their good, by being in the position to help their people. Joseph blessed his children and died at 110 years old. He was embalmed and placed in a coffin in Egypt.
Genesis 50 -
Israel became a nation in Egypt. When a new King in Egypt rose to power he knew nothing of the Hebrews, so he feared that they would be a force to recon with if they sided with their enemies. So, the new Pharaoh told his people to hold them back by all means necessary. The more they pressed on the Hebrew people the more they prospered and the more they grew. The Pharaoh had the maidservants Drown the male children of the Hebrews. A mother in the house of Levi bore a son and hid him for 3 months, but once he was too old to hide she placed him in a basket upstream for the Pharaoh's daughter and set him loose to approach her as she bathed in the river with her servants. She seen him and had her servant retrieve him. She took him as her son, and raised him, she had a Hebrew woman take him and nurse him till he was old enough for food. Moses grew up, one day he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew man and he killed him and hid his body. later he saw a Hebrew man abusing his brother and he asked why would you abuse your own blood. They asked who made you prince and judge over us? Do you plan to kill us as you did the Egyptian? Moses feared that the Pharaoh might know of this so he fled. The Pharaoh found out and he sought to kill Moses but Moses was already gone.
Exodus 1-2:15 -
I always admired the gumption of Moses' mother. She risked all for her son. She then was able to still nurse her son by her daughter being the Pharaoh's servant. I always wondered the Name of Moses' mother but the bible doesn't say that I have ever seen. It just said a man of the tribe of Levi took a bride from a daughter of the tribe of Levi. I always figured Moses wouldn't have needed to flee if he had faced the Pharaoh and used his mother the Pharaoh's sister as a guard. I always figured he would have been viewed as family to the Pharaoh. Just not enough info to find out the truth. This was just my feeling. I loved the fact that Jacob wished to be buried with his family. I always figured Joseph would too. I look forward to learning more about the things that the Lord chooses to reveal to me this time around.
